The Aftercare Focus Study is a randomized clinical trial of standard care Next Day Appointments (NDAs) alone vs. standard care NDAs using the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) framework (Jobes, 2006). Pilot data for inpatients recruited at Harborview showed a significant benefit of CAMS in resolving suicidality quickly and preventing relapse over one year (Comtois et al., 2011). This study is designed to be a rigorous test of the CAMS intervention to prevent future suicide attempts.

Study aims
Aim 1: To evaluate whether CAMS results in less suicidal behavior than standard care.
Aim 2: To evaluate whether CAMS results in less suicidal ideation and suicide intent and improved mental health markers than standard care.
Aim 3: To evaluate whether CAMS is more satisfactory to patients than standard care.

Recruitment

Recruitment has now closed with a total sample of 150 participants. CSPAR and its collaborators are very grateful to all of the study participants and partners for their contribution to this project.
